Language, Joke and Feminism

         Now a day social sites are so powerful that it provides world Wide Connectivity. People are sharing their views and ideas related to subjects and expand their critical thinking using various social sites. Those sites  provide information related to education , materials, job, political crisis, audio and video resources and entertainment. 

          Social Networking is invaluable promotional tool which spreads any messages or information incredibly fast. Very few people are able to use all sites with proper usage. Mostly people use all and specifically WhatsApp to forwards jokes and funny things. They forward any jokes any funny comments on women  without thinking.  May be you all say, it is only a joke. Then What's the problem ? it's only for minutes laughter but it harms permanently. 

          No, it is not  trivial matter. It's all about the 'Conditioning.'  Just tools are changed in the digital age other things remain same. It is easy to send joke instantly to anybody. What do you mean by joke ?

          Joke means something said or done to provoke laughter, a matter that need not be taken very seriously. A Joke is a display of humour in which words are used within a specific and well-defined narrative structure to make people laugh.

Linguist Robert Hetzron offers definition :

" A Joke is a short humorous piece of oral literature in which the funniness culminates in the final sentence, called punch line."

          Forwarding joke on women transformed seeds in the mind who reads it.  Language which is used in the joke must be observed because 'Language is constructed'. Language identity is defined as "how a person understands his or her relationship to the world, how that relationship is structured across time and space and how the person understands possibilities of the future."  

          In joke also it is necessary to observe the language which is used in it. Male dominant power never ever give the position or any authority even in the joke.  Female always portrays as inferior than male but we laugh on the that joke without any concern means that thing is already accepted by us. People or even females  don't have any problem with such language because it is already conditioning  from her childhood and not able to raise their voice against the  representation of themselves as hilarious.

"Language speaks us rather than we speak language."

          Language discourse is much important to understand. we all use language in our daily routine life but it effects subconscious mind of human begins. Discourse describe " an entity of sequence , of signs, in that they are enouncements", statements in conversation. Michel Foucault's definition as 'Practices of which they speak'. According to this , speakers constantly move between powerful and powerless 'subject positions' as they talk and interact.

           Language effects subconsciously to everybody but because of Conditioning not only Mind but atmosphere also. As Saussure says , "Language constitutes our world and our very existence ." Meaning of any words comes from the context and contexts are already there in their mind. The repetition and forward of such jokes are not innocent activity . It is controlled activity.  

          Feminism is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal, to define, establish, and achieve political economic, personal and social right for women. In joke women is represented sometime fool, sometime beauty conscious, sometime less intelligent, sometime as object, gender bias on all bases we can study joke with the usage of feminism.

          What already exist within us is represented through language. And Joke also represents the mental states and thoughts of people. Let's try to read some selected jokes of WhatsApp with language discourse and Feminism.

After marriage life, woman has to compromise so many things. She has to settle herself in new home and environment and each things.  She lost her freedom and then even she represents as she is responsible for the Fall of man .

          

Shopping is not always hobby of women. Always it must be done as the part of responsibility to buy things for house. Market is not such great place where she can enjoy. But, after marriage she has whole responsibility of House and  family members. She is not used to buying things for herself only but also manage and buy things for other members and necessary things of houses. Male can avoid or denied to go to market to buy goods but female can't. So, how can male blame to women without understanding  and crack the joke on them.

What if the sentence is said in favour of girl ? What about girl's life? Also think about it. 

Is it reality ? In our society women are suffering from male dominant power structure.  Women are beaten . They are voiceless. She is treated as inferior and as 'Object'. And people laugh on that they are suffering from their wives . How ridiculous it is! Without any problem female also accept this and most of laugh also because of conditioning. 

It is not only one word substitute. It is  drivel. How can anyone comment like this ? It is not joke. Lack of womb is something lost in reality  but male can't accept it easily. So, creating some words in other references they satisfy their ego that having womb is not good. They represent it as having womb is just like cruse and start to ignore it. 

In reality, after getting marriage women lost their freedom. she has to follow some rules and regulation. Her life is changed at all. What changes we find in male's life after marriage? Nothing . Then , why such so called jokes is cracked on women's characters ? Actually she becomes the victim but society predicts that male is victimized. How sad it is!

Have you ever seen such lady in your life? In reality Woman manages the monthly expenditures of house and also save some money from husband's salary. Then why she always become the trap of male ? What is the problem is not right question but I have to ask Where is the problem ? 'Mindset'  is the problematic. This language gives the seed to people or little children that all women are doing this only and then it remains in mind forever though it is false.

We have many other examples of such jokes through which we can study them similar way. Here, I give only  some of jokes on which we can also apply language discourse and feminism. Other examples like..... 

Man only understood feminism that they take pride to gives freedom to female to choose what she wants to cook for her husband or family. It's not only joke which we are forwarding without any single thought. It harms us but it is internalized so that we don't have any idea that it affects much our mind. After grown up in particular atmosphere and socialization, two different gender behaves differently.

          Though these are jokes it influences much subconscious mind and gradually generates its effect in real life. women have to be strong , smart and independent until things get a little difficult.
