SIDHDHARTHA
- Herman Hesse.
"Sidhdhartha" is written by Hermann Hesse. It is the spiritual journey of self-discovery of a man whose name is Siddhartha during the time of the Gautama Buddha. Budhdha is reffered as "Gautama" in the novel. Novel gives the glimpses of this event like......
"Nothing is mine. I know nothing,
I possess nothing, I have learned nothing."
I find the Existential anxiety hear. Philosophical concern which is given by Satre, Albert Camus, and Martin Esslin etc....
There is no meaning at all in life. Men has to predict that he/she is happy with present situation or doing the things because they have nothing to do. Life has no meaning at all. One has to give the meaning of the life.
" Man is maker of his own fate. "
Though ultimate truth of the life is already decided, we have to reach that point /place with completing our journey. Nothing can be sustained forever. Journey is the most important part of the life. Whatever happens in life but journey never ends until we die.
One has to search his/her own path. No one is followed by others because we all are different. No body can cheat because all have different question papers . The same story , describe here. When we think we know all things , actually we don't nothing. The story of novel is well structured and has the pictorial elements. Sometime readers visualize things and at some extent they can feel also. Wonderful philosophical talk we find in the novel among characters.

Sidhdhartha
has curiosity to know about the great knowledge what is themeaning of life? Govinda and Shidhdhartha both are the best
friends. Shidhdhartha leaves the home to gain spiritual illuminiation. During
that time, they both get chance to meet '
Gautama Budhdha' who is already enlighten himself. Govinda follows all instructions and advices
of Budhdha but Sidhdhartha can't do it. He has doubt on Budhdha's philosophy, too.
Shidhdhartha argues that individual is different so path must be different One
has to seek his/her life own. No one can
able to enlighten others. He believes
that teacher ( Budhdha) can't give unique lesson to each. One has to find the
own way. And that's why Shidhdhartha continues his life journey alone without his best friend Govinda.
Siddhartha crosses a river and
unable to pay the money to sailor. In city he comes across the most attractive woman Kamala who tells him to be richer first. she
may teach him the art of love. Though he knows the meaninglessness of wealth
and life he agree with her condition. Gradually , Sidhdhartha becomes successful
business man. Thus Siddhartha becomes a rich man and Kamala's lover, though in
his middle years he realizes that the luxurious lifestyle which is selected by
him is merely have surface attraction nothing else. Afterwards , Sidhdhartha again leaves Kamala, and continues
his journey to find the self coming back to the river. He feels that he has
experienced something within. He feels enlightenment
through the word "OM". Nearby River he once again meets his best
friend Govinda who is passing through
that region.
Siddhartha
decides to live e bank of river with
spiritual essence. Sidhdharth again meets
Vasudeva - the sailor with whom
he begins his way of life. Although
Vasudeva is a simple man, he understands and relates that the river has many
voices and significant messages to divulge to any who might listen.
Kamala accept Budhdhism and
gives the birth of son but Sidhdharth don't know about this. Sidhdhartha comes
across to this reality when Kamala is almost seduced by ventures and dies. Much
pain and suffering go together with kamala. Now, once again Sidhdhartha takes responsibility his son as
father but son flees . Sidhdhartha realises the truth of life and have much philosophical
talk with Vasudeva. Time is nothing . It
is only illusion. Present moment is the
only time to have . while they are discussing, Sidhdhartha accepts that
Vasudeva has much understanding and maturity than him. He does his work with
heart and get the depth of mind . He
finds his own way while working over river only.
Vasudeva urges him to let the child to find his own path,
much like Sidhdhartha does himself in youth. Vasudeva shares his experience
with river to Shidhdhartha. One has to be alone and walk on way is the cyclical
nature. Vasudeva says we have to depart when work is done . And once once more,
Sidhdhartha is alone.

Now, at the end Sidhdhartha
gets the enlightenment from Vasudeva. When Govinda and he meet, Govinda doesn't
able to recognise his childhood friends. When Govinda says him to relate his wisdom with Budhdhism Sidhdhartha says
that for every true statement there is an opposite one that is also true; that
language and the confines of time lead people to hold to one fixed belief that
does not account for the detail of the truth. Siddhartha simply urges people to
identify and love the world in its completeness.
Siddhartha then
requests that Govinda kiss his forehead and, when he does, Govinda experiences
the visions of timelessness that Siddhartha himself saw with Vasudeva by the
river. Govinda bows to his wise friend and Siddhartha smiles radiantly, having
found enlightenment.
