Wordsworth's Preface to Lyrical Ballads

Classicism  are Objective and they have rules and regulations to write. Means.. they have many restriction which they have to follow. They give first priority to moral lesson in poetry. While Romanticism are Subjective and they give first priority to imagination and aesthetic  pleasure in poetry. They are free from all boundaries of restriction. They can write what they want.

Generally , we are used to hearing  “ who is poet ?” but hear Wordsworth says “ what is poet?” means.. Wordsworth give the preference to the quality of the works not the person. poet has quality to reach readers heart through emotions, feelings and with different sensibilities. He has something more skill which Ordinary people haven’t. He creates something more than the common people
.
According to Wordsworth...............

“ Poet is man speaking to men; a man , it is true ,endowed with more lively sensibility, more enthusiasm and tenderness who has greater knowledge of human nature, and a more comprehensive soul , than common among mankind.”

Simple meaning of diction is the choice of words from the language which we use in literature.
In preface he suggested that….

1 Language of poetry should be the language ‘really used by men’ but.. there is also need of the selection of the words from colloquial language. One can use vernacular language but one must have select from that for poetry.

2 Language should be common man in state of vivid sensation means.. poetry must reach to the  readers heart and  common people also  through the language and imagination composition .

The most important part is that  composition of imagination and language.

“Poetry is the instrument for the propagation of moral thoughts.” Through the medium poetry , poet teaches moral lessons and provides the aesthetic delight  too. Reading  poetry ,in reader’s mind  comes out from the dark and gets the new ideas and thoughts towards the life.

  According to Wordsworth…

“ Poetry is the breath and finer spirit  of all knowledge the impassioned expression that is in the countenance of all science.”

Poetry is like morning star which throws its radiance through the gloom and darkness of life. Through the medium of poetry poet teaches moral lessons to better human life.Coleridge also gives the view on poetry. It is true that he can’t classify the differences of poem and poetry in details.

According to Coleridge.......

poetry is the different from poem in the genius quality. In poets mind has lots of the expression and feelings with great patience to create something .This genius quality which produce something is called Poetry and Poetry is about poetic sense of mind.
